The discography of South Korean duo TVXQ, known as Tohoshinki in Japan, consists of 14 studio albums (two which were reissued under different titles), 59 singles, four compilation albums, 32 soundtrack appearances, one extended play, and three remix albums. TVXQ originally debuted as a five-piece boy band under S.M. Entertainment in December 2003. Their debut single "Hug" was released in four different language versions, including Korean, Japanese, Mandarin, and English. In 2004, the band signed with Japan's Avex sub-label Rhythm Zone and released their debut Japanese single, "Stay with Me Tonight" in April 2005. In July 2009, three of the members – later known as JYJ – left their Korean agency S.M. Entertainment, and TVXQ returned as a duo act with remaining members U-Know Yunho and Max Changmin in 2011.
One of the best-selling K-pop acts in the world, TVXQ have sold over 12 million physical records in both Korea and Japan as of December 2013.[1] Their 2008 Korean-language album Mirotic had set a new record for one-week sales in South Korea, a record the group still holds today. Both "O"-Jung.Ban.Hap. (2006) and Mirotic (2008) were the best-selling albums in Korea at the time of their releases. In Japan, TVXQ are the first foreign group to sell over 3.1 million physical singles, and are the first foreign artist to achieve over ten number-one singles in Japan, making them the second best-selling foreign music act in Japan.[2]
