TIME Fibre Broadband is a broadband Internet product offered by TIME dotCom Berhad in Malaysia. According to a Sundaily.com article,[2] this new service will be the country's first and only broadband internet service that is capable of offering access speeds up to 50 Mbit/s (Megabits per second), making it the fastest service in the country that is provided directly to residential areas.[2]

It also stated that TIME dotCom is the only telecommunication solution provider in Malaysia that provides 100% fibre optic connection direct to the home. It was officially launched on 2 February 2010 in Mont Kiara.

The problem with internet usage and broadband in Malaysia is that the bandwidth provided for home users is very low compared to other countries. Most home users in Malaysia only use 1 Mbit/s that the ISPs provided. With the internet and broadband usage drastically increasing in Malaysia,[3] TIME dotCom has provide a solution for long awaited and complaining users in Malaysia. Hopefully that this effort will be the pioneer of fast and updated broadband in Malaysia.

Features

One of the product features is the Bandwidth on Demand (BoD) which users can choose to boost the bandwidth up to 50 Mbit/s whenever they like. However, this feature comes at a price. The boost feature can be activated through the self care portal.[4]

Availability

Apart from being the only telecommunications solution provider in Malaysia that offers this product, the service availability is limited and not all consumers can enjoy the benefits of a fast internet connection. Places that have been offered are at Mont' Kiara Pines, Mont' Kiara Astana, Mont' Kiara Sophia, Mont' Kiara Pelangi, Mont' Kiara Palma, Mont' Kiara Damai and Mont' Kiara Bayu. Fortunately, according to thestar.com.my article, there will be more places available for this product by the middle of 2010.[5]

Time Fibre Broadband to drive TdC growth

Fixed-line telecommunications solution provider TIME dotCom Bhd (TdC) expects to retain positive growth, particularly with the launch of its new service TIME Fibre Broadband, said chief executive officer Afzal Abdul Rahim.[6]

The company posted RM24.454 million in pre-tax profit in the second quarter ended 30 June 2009 on the back of RM67.898 million in revenue, which saw the company moving back into the black for the first time in 14 years.

It also recorded RM11.941 million pre-tax profit in the third quarter ended 30 September 2009, earning RM69.931 million in revenue.

"We see this momentum continuing especially with the launch of the product today," he said at the TIME Fibre Broadband launch. Afzal said the company would continue to drive sales and increase market share in areas like wholesale, corporate and small-and-medium enterprises.

"We'll be rolling out more exciting and innovative products in the wholesale and business market segments," he said.

Afzal said TdC was planning to extend by 85 per cent its fibre broadband coverage in high-density Klang Valley in the second quarter of 2010.

Its latest service, TIME Fibre Broadband, a high-speed Internet access, offers users at a speed of up to 50 megabits per second currently available in Mont Kiara area.

"We're looking into expanding the service to other areas under the second and third phases, with more locations undergoing testing and slated for installation of the service," he said.

Afzal said that TdC had targeted between 15 and 20 per cent of potential customer base for area in coverage.

He said TIME Fibre Broadband is targeted at young professionals, high-bandwidth users and early adopters who are constantly blogging, gaming, social-networking and downloading.

"The service is for internet users craving for fastest internet connection without being hindered by slow and unreliable connection speed," Afzal said.

TIME Fibre Broadband is being offered at competitive rates ranging from RM149 to RM329 for 2 Mbit/s to 10 Mbit/s service package, Afzal said, adding that customers will be able to experience a boost speed of up to 50 Mbit/s on demand.
