T-ara N4 is a sub-unit of South Korean girl group T-ara, formed by Core Contents Media in 2013. The sub-group consists of four members: whose current lineup is Eunjung, Hyomin, Jiyeon and Dani.

History

In late March 2013, T-ara's agency Core Contents Media were in the midst of forming a new unit from the group with the members Eunjung, Areum, Jiyeon and Hyomin. The unit's name, T-ara N4 (which stands for "T-ara Brand New 4") was revealed April 12, 2013.[1] T-ara previously tried sub-units with the promotions of their sixth Japanese single "Bunny Style!", in which the B-sides were sung by units of two and three members; however this will be their first time doing formal unit activities.[2] T-ara N4's debut single, "Jeonwon Diary" (전원일기 Jeon-won Ilgi), was inspired by the 1980s South Korean drama of the same name.[3] Produced by Duble Sidekick, the song is said to have "funky and intense" dance music combined with elements of hip-hop,[4] with the main motif of "Jeonwon Diary" being about breaking away from the same everyday routine.[3] Another version of the song, with traditional harmonies and instruments, will be arranged by Hwang Ho-jun.[3]

Advancement to the US

On May 20, T-ara N4 announced through their press conference that new American versions of "Jeonwon Diary" will be released the following month. The five versions will feature American artists who will be rapping in English, namely: Ray J, Chris Brown, T-Pain, Snoop Dogg and Wiz Khalifa. The single is set to be released in June through entertainment executive and music producer Damuer H. Leffridge Popular Entertainment in conjunction with Empire Records. Because Areum left the group to pursue a solo career, the single that the group would launch in the United States was delayed. Then in August 2013 the Sub-Unit announced that the single would launch in December 2013 and that the integral release said Dani will debut with T-ara N4.[5]

Areum departure

On July 10, 2013, Areum left the group to pursue her solo career, this occurred when the Sub-Unit was traveling in the United States. Dani who was training to enter T-ara will replace Areum but only in T-ara N4, not T-ara for now.
