Tōwa, Iwate

Tōwa (東和町 Tōwa-chō) was a town located in Waga District, Iwate Prefecture, Japan. It is now a part of Hanamaki City.

As of 2003, the town had an estimated population of 10,332 and a density of 65.60 persons per km². The total area was 157.51 km².

On January 1, 2006, Tōwa, along with the towns of Ishidoriya and Ōhasama (both from Hienuki District), was merged into the expanded city of Hanamaki.

Foreign exchange

Tōwa has conducted exchanges with many other towns and cities, starting with Clinton, Wisconsin in 1975. Tōwa continues the exchange program as a part of Hanamaki City to this day.
