Syedna Feerkhan Shujauddin [1] (died 9 Zilkad 1065 AH /1657 AD), Ahmedabad, India) was the 33 rd Da'i al-Mutlaq (Absolute Missionary) of the Dawoodi Bohra sect of Musta‘lī Islam.
Syedna Feerkhan Shujauddin succeeded, the 32 nd Dai Syedna Qutubuddin Shaheed, to the religious post. He became Da'i al-Mutlaq in 1056 AH [2] (1648AD) and his period of Dawat was from 1056 -1065 AH ( 1648-1657 AD).
Syedna Feerkhan Shujauddin and Dawoodi Bohra had endured great hardships and were prevented from following the Fatimid 'shariat'(followings) and were forced to wear ivory and shave off their beards. Nevertheless, with the tireless efforts of Dai, Dawoodi Bohra remained steadfast on the 'shariat'. Syedna Feerkhan Shujauddin bestowed 'nas' upon 34 th Dai Syedna Ismail Badruddin bin Maulai Raj, who had then shifted office of Dawat to Jamnagar.[3]
The Dawoodi Bohra Dais are appointed one after other in the philosophy /Faith of “nass’ as done by earlier Imams. Fatemid/Bohra believe that the god representative will be always there on earth as his Imam and can not die before appointing his true successor.
This fact got further strength in the period of Syedna Feer Khan, who was prisoned by moughal ruler in India and kept in the horses stable area. Fire broke in the area, the complete surrounding area was burnt but the Dai was intact, fire could not reach his place of stay a 'raoti'(tent). This has impressed the ruler so much that he has released the Dai and shifted to Ahmedabad with full honour. This also show that he was true representative of Imamat and god saved him.[4]
