Syed Rahim Nabi (born 14 December 1985) popularly known as Nabi is a versatile player who can play in all of the outfield positions. He will feature in the upcoming new Indian Super League and represents India internationally.
Career
A product of the Tata Football Academy, Nabi started his career playing as a striker, then moved to midfield and then played as wingback as well. In recent international friendlies he has been playing as a fullback.
Nabi’s club career started with Mohammedan Sporting but really took off after joining East Bengal in 2004. Except the I-League, Nabi has won almost every domestic trophy. At East Bengal too he has played in several positions.
He has been a member of the Indian team in tournaments like the SAFF Cup, Asian Cup qualifiers and World Cup qualifiers and was part of the squad that won two Nehru Cups and 2008 AFC Challenge Cup under Bob Houghton.
2012-13 I-League
On 31 March 2013 at Kalyani Stadium, he scored with a diving header from a cross of C.S.Sabeeth on the left flank to beat Dempo S.C. goalkeeper Laxmikant Kattimani on the 7th minute, and then slided in a wonderful through ball to assist Odafe Onyeka Okolie on the 47th minute to give the mariners a 2-0 lead, a match which they eventually won 2-1.
Mohammedan (loan)
After the 2012–13 season ended, Nabi signed with IMG-Reliance to join their Indian Super League but due to objection from the I-League clubs in which they said they would not sign any players who joined the ISL it meant that Nabi would be without a club for a long period of time. Then, on 30 October 2013, it was announced that Mohammedan S.C. had broken that barrier when they signed Nabi on loan.[1]
He made his debut on 27th November 2013 against Mohun Bagan at the Salt Lake Stadium in which he started and played till minutes 59 minutes and was replaced by Phoolchand Hembram as Mohammedan drew the match 0-0.[2]
