Sydell Group is a New York- based developer of lifestyle-oriented hotels. Sydell has developed properties in New York City, Palm Springs, California, and Scottsdale, Arizona.

History

Sydell was formed in 2006 by Andrew Zobler, former Senior Vice President of Acquisitions for North America for Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc, Principal of Lazard Frères Real Estate Funds, and Chief Investment Officer at André Balazs Properties.

Collaborations

Sydell's first collaboration was with Ace International in 2008 to develop the Ace Hotel New York. Sydell and Ace worked with Roman and Williams to redesign the former Hotel Breslin, a building built in 1094 in the NoMad neighborhood of Manhattan. Sydell and Ace then went on to redesign the Ace Hotel & Swim Club in Palm Springs, built on the foundation of a 1965 Howard Johnson hotel and called “Southern California’s boho playground du jour.”[1]

Sydell's next collaboration was called The NoMad Hotel in New York, where Sydell teamed up with Will Guidara and Daniel Humm, the general manager and chef behind the restaurant Eleven Madison Park.

For their third set of collaborations in 2011, Sydell worked with Joie de Vivre Hospitality and Stamberg Aferiat Architecture to design The Saguaro hotels in Scottsdale and Palm Springs.[2]
