The Swiss Seismological Service (German: Schweizerischer Erdbebendienst (SED), French: Service Sismologique Suisse, Italian: Servizio Sismico Svizzero, Romansh: Servizi da Terratrembels Svizzer) is the federal agency of Switzerland responsible for monitoring earthquakes and assessing the seismic hazard of Switzerland. The agency is affiliated with the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology, ETH Zurich. Activities at the Swiss Seismological Service includes research on historical seismicity, strong-motion and engineering seismology, seismotectonics of the greater Alpine region, earthquake location, verification of nuclear explosions (in compliance with the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty), and statistical earthquake seismology.
