Sweifieh

Swéfiéh (also spelled Sweifieh and Swéfieyé) is a district located in the western area of the Jordanian Capital Ammān. Even though the district is large enough to qualify for becoming a city itself, it's considered officially part of the Valley of The Orchards area.

Life

Swéfiéh is notorious for its night-life and its shopping culture, Malls and shopping centres are scattered around, the best known being the Baraké Mall due to its accessible location and quality shops. Another landmark of the area is the well known Agencies Street, a Pedestrian zone containing dozens of expensive and luxurious shops and Cafés. Many people opt to live on the outskirts of the area because real estate can be extremely expensive, the high prices seen on anything in the area and the 24/7 congestion.

The Area is served by several clubs, cafés, restaurants, bars and hotels. Clubbing is a major sub-culture that the city produces and remains the leading reason why many of the city's inhabitants visit the area. The exclusive clubs tend to move away slightly towards the nearby Âbdun area which is calmer and has an exclusive undertone to it. It is estimated that Swéfiéh has more Bars, Nightclubs and Adult Entertainment Venues than the rest of the city combined, making Swéfiéh an unofficial red-light district among the residents.

Transportation

The area is served by several bus lines, Taxis and soon: a subway station. Most of the Taxis in Swéfiéh only go to other regions in the Western part of the metropolis, whereas the bus line connects with the Downtown station at one point. Many of the area's residents own cars and use them frequently (unlike residents of other districts who rely almost exclusively on Public Transportation). Swéfiéh is almost congested with traffic jams, pedestrians and tourists on non-stop basis; traffic loosens up slightly after 3 AM but it remains nonetheless, and the traffic can reach extremes during the summer months, when millions of tourists flood the western side of the city, during the summer the congestion is 24/7 and can be quite unbearable. The streets of the district are very stereotypically European, with narrow roads and cars usually parked on each side. On the outskirts of the district there are four highways that envelope the area to help loosen the traffic, but they do occasionally suffer from congestion.
