Svala Björgvinsdóttir (or Björgvins) (born February 8, 1977 in Reykjavík, Iceland) is an Icelandic pop singer-songwriter. She is most notable for her 2001 song, 'The Real Me', from the album with the same title. She took up the stage name, Kali, after joining a house band called Steed Lord.

Biography

Svala is the daughter of singer Bo Halldorsson. She began singing publicly at the age of seven when she appeared on her father's Christmas album.[1] At the age of nine, she duetted with him on another of his albums. During the mid-90s, Svala joined Scope, an Icelandic electronica band that released an album with its only hit, "Was That All It Was?"

In 2001, she signed with Priority Records and released an album titled The Real Me and her single, 'The Real Me', which became a minor success in the United States.[2] Her 2005 album, Bird of Freedom, was released independently. She joined the house band Steed Lord a year later and still performs with them.

On April 9, 2008, Steed Lord was involved in a near-fatal car accident en route to Keflavik International Airport, whence they were about to depart for a tour of Norway and Sweden. Svala suffered internal bleeding, broken ribs, and minor back injuries.

Svala currently resides in Los Angeles.
