Surf Air is a California-based airline that began operation in 2013. The company is the first in the United States to offer "all you can fly" service for a monthly fee.[1] It charges $1,650 per month for unlimited flights[2] plus a $500 initiation fee.[3] The company uses a Pilatus PC-12 aircraft.[4] Wade Eyerly is the CEO.[5]

The airline's inaugural service offered only West-Coast flights between Silicon Valley (San Carlos Airport) and the Los Angeles area (Burbank Airport). In July 2013, it added L.A.-area service to Santa Barbara Airport as well.[6][7] Currently, 400 members are activated

History

The company was founded by David Eyerly, a former operations manager for Frontier Airlines, his brother Wade Eyerly, who previously worked for the National Security Agency, the United States Department of Defense, and as the Press Advance Representative for Dick Cheney, Reed Farnsworth, Cory Cozzens and Scott Porter. Wade Eyerly built quantitative models to predict conflict and received the Secretary of Defense medal for the Global War on Terror and the Civilian Joint Service Commendation for his work.[8]

Surf Air emerged in 2012 from MuckerLab,[9] a Los Angeles-based business incubator.[7] Angel investors included Paige Craig, Aviv Grill and Bill Woodward. A Series A round of venture capital was completed in mid-2013 with investment from Anthem Venture Partners, NEA, TriplePoint Capital, Siemer Ventures, Baroda Ventures, Gilad Elbaz, Eytan Elbaz, Rick Caruso, Jeffrey Stibel, Mike Walsh and actor Jared Leto.[8]

Fleet

As of November, 2013 the Surf Air fleet includes 3 Pilatus PC-12 turboprop aircraft. The aircraft have a 7 passenger capacity.
