Sur Sohni

SUR SOHNI (Sindhi: سرسهڻي ) is the sixth of 30 Surs (Chapters) of Shah Jo Risalo that spiritually treats the love of Sohni and Mehar. The contents of this Sur, section by section, are described below:

  1. Sohni's love-her resignation to God-true to promise-meeting the beloved through death.
  2. Fearful state of the river-the breaking of waves etc.
  3. Drowning of Sohni.
  4. The spiritual love of Sohni and Mehar existed long before the creation of world.
  5. Mehar cries for the rescue of Sohni.
  6. The jar to swim with across the river-destiny will have its way.
  7. Excess of desire for going over the beloved.
