SuperStar Libra is a cruise ship owned and operated by Star Cruises. She was built in 1988 by Wärtsilä Turku New Shipyard in Turku, Finland as Seaward for Norwegian Cruise Line. In 1997 she was renamed Norwegian Sea, remaining in NCL fleet. In 2005 she was transferred to the fleet of Star Cruises.

History

The vessel entered operation with Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL) in 1988 as Seaward. The vessel was renamed Norwegian Sea in 1997. In 2005, the vessel was transferred to the Star Cruises fleet and renamed SuperStar Libra.

With Star Cruises, SuperStar Libra sailed a variety of cruises in the Mediterranean, Adriatic, and Aegean seas in the summer of 2006. The vessel deployed back to Mumbai in late September 2006. SuperStar Libra was based in Taiwan in 2007 and 2008 and sailed from Keelung; During November 2007- March 2008, SuperStar Libra sailed from Hong Kong and operates 2-7 Night Cruises to China,Vietnam and Taiwan.For part of the year and also from Singapore for November 2008 till January 2009. Since then, she has been laid up.

The ship restarted sailings from Keelung on 27 May 2009 till October 2009, operating one to three nights cruises to open sea, Ishigaki and Naha (Okinawa, Japan).

She was then be deployed to Singapore in November for 3 Nights KL & Penang or Langkawi Cruise / 4 night KL & Phuket Cruise till late December. After that, she was laid up in Port Klang again. In April 2010, SuperStar Libra sailed 1 Night Cruises from Hong Kong to the South China Sea to replace the SuperStar Aquarius which is in drydock.Afterwards,She sailed different sailings out of Japan and Taiwan during May-October 2010.[1]

She sailed from Singapore to Thailand and Malaysia from November to December 2010, followed by a series of 1 and 3 cruises from Penang to Highseas, Phuket and Krabi throughout 2011.

Current plans

She will continue to operate 1 Night Cruises to the Highseas and 3 Night Cruises to Phuket and Krabi departing from Penang, Malaysia until 31 December 2013.

Future plans

She is bound for a refurbishment in January 2013 in Singapore. Her 1 night and 3 night cruises will be replaced by SuperStar Gemini during that period. [2]
