Sugrue

Sugrue is an Irish surname. It is the reduced anglicized form of the Gaelic Ó Siochfhradha descendant of Siochfhradh, a personal name representing a Gaelicized form of an Old Norse cognate of Germanic Siegfried.
The surname is largely confined to County Kerry.[1]
Spelling variations
A cursory glance at US phone books will throw up the following variations:
- Shugrue
- Sughrue
both of which are closer phonetically to way Ó Siochfhradha is pronounced in the Irish language
