2012-2013 Stranger Cup |
The Stranger Charity Cup is an annual amateur association football cup competition in the island of Guernsey in the Channel Islands. It is open to all clubs that play in the top league in the island, the Priaulx League.
The Cup was donated to Northerners AC by William Stranger and was originally contested by just them as an internal competition. It split its players into eight teams to decide the winners. This was done as Northerners quit the Guernsey Football Association for one season as they were unhappy at the way they were treated. When they rejoined the GFA they donated the cup to the GFA and they then decided to make it an annual competition.[2] The proceeds of the Cup are used to help injured players pay for any medical bills they cannot afford and also living costs if they are unable to work due to a footballing injury.
