Stonebreakers Hut

Stonebreakers Hut or Black Hut part of the Verandah section is situated between the 29th Milestone and the 30th Milestone road-side markers on the Snaefell Mountain Course used for the Isle of Man TT Races on the A18 Snaefell Mountain Road in the parish of Lezayre in the Isle of Man. Situated nearby is the John Smyth Memorial Shelter.

The Verandah section was part of the Highland Course and the Four Inch Course used for the Gordon Bennett Trial and Tourist Trophy automobile car races held in the Isle of Man between 1904 and 1922. Tower Bends is now of the Snaefell Mountain Course used since 1911 for the Isle of Man TT and 1923 for the Manx Grand Prix Races.

During the first lap of the 1934 Isle of Man TT Lightweight Race, Syd Crabtree, the winner of the 1929 Lightweight Race crashed near the Stonebreakers Hut on the Mountain Section and was killed.

This section of road including the Verandah Bends was subject to road-widing and re-profiled during the winter of 1970/1971 road-widening occurs on the A18 Mountain Road at Verandah and Stonebreakers Hut by cutting into the hillside.[1][2] The two building structures that were owned by the Isle of Man Highway Board were removed in the 1980s but the corner retained the name on the Mountain Course of the Stonebreakers Hut.
