"Stomp!" is a song released by The Brothers Johnson from their fourth album, Light Up the Night, in early 1980. It reached number one on the Dance singles chart.[1] It reached number one on the R&B singles chart and peaked at number 7 on the Billboard Hot 100 in early 1980.[2] It was a bigger success in the UK, where it peaked at number 6 on the singles chart. The song also reached number one on the New Zealand Singles Chart, staying in this position for six weeks in 1980.
It is the best known and most commercially successful song from The Brothers Johnson.
Cultural references
The song was also used in one episode British television series Red Dwarf, in which the main characters win a basketball game against prison guards.
"Stomp!" can be heard playing in the background during a scene in the 2008 film Yes Man.
The song was also included in the soundtrack of the 2006 film Akeelah and the Bee.
