Stina Wirsén (born 1968 in Älvsjö, Stockholm) is a Swedish illustrator and cartoonist.

Stina was educated in Konstfack between 1985 and 1992.[1] She was an illustrator of the daily Swedish newspaper Dagens Nyheter from 1993 to 2010.[2] Stina is known by readers for her fashion illustrations, although she also made political caricatures and travel reports.

Stina won many awards generally given to illustrators of Sweden, such as the annual Elsa Beskow Plaque in 2000.[3]

Children's Illustrations

Stina is also known for her picture books for children. Among the book series' she created are En bok för de minsta små and Vem?. Another series, created alongside with her mother Carin Wirsén and sister Anna Hörling, is Little Pink & Brokiga, whose characters debuted in 2006. The series gained enough success to expand into a children's brand of merchandise, which later reached to Japan.[4]

She directed an animated feature based on Brokiga titled Lilla Skär och alla små brokiga, which was released on September 22, 2012. The 35-minute film was narrated by actor Stellan Skarsgård. The feature received controversy due to the appearance of a character named Lilla Hjärtat, who has characteristics of African racial stereotypes. Although some of the criticism was aimed at Stina Wirsén, she claimed to be against racism.[5]
