History
The Dutch part of the firm was founded in 1911 by D.W. Stibbe. The Belgian part of Stibbe was established by Henri Simont sr. After the Dutch firm extended its activities by opening an office in New York, the two firms merged to rebrand as Stibbe & Simont in 1991. Stibbe has recently continued its expansion with the opening of a Dubai office in 2009 and a Luxembourg office in 2010. Today the firm numbers over 350 lawyers. In 2011 Stibbe was elected Benelux Law Firm of the Year by The Lawyer.
The British law firm Herbert Smith had a partnership with Stibbe and the German firm Gleiss Lutz until 2011; Herbert Smith's intention was to merge with the other two firms, but they refused its overtures.[1]
