Steve Tappin (born Harrogate ) is a CEO confidant for the leaders of some of the world's leading companies, the CEO of Xinfu, the host of the BBC CEO Guru, author of The Secrets of CEOs and one of the founders of World of CEOs, the place to learn about, connect with and become a better CEO.
Current focus
Tappin is a CEO coach and a personal confidant for the CEOs of many of the most successful and fastest growing companies in the world. He is actively involved in many of the top performing global businesses such as Virgin, Deloitte, Easyjet, RSA, Renren, and Bain Capital. He presents the BBC Series "CEO Guru" where he regularly interviews some of the top global CEOs. He is also working with CEOs from some of the leading Western and Chinese companies applying The Secrets of CEOs.[1]
BBC CEO Guru
Tappin is the host of the BBC Series, CEO Guru which is broadcast internationally on BBC World. It features indepth interviews with Steve and World leading CEOs. The series so far has featured. Jeff Immelt - GE, Paul Walsh - Diageo, Liu Chuanzhi - Lenovo, Sir Martin Sorrell - WPP, John Donahoe - eBay, Walter Robb - Whole Foods, Harriet Green - Thomas Cook, Liu Dongsheng - TCL and Stefano Pessini - Boots.
It consists of several short films, plus associated web articles for BBC World News TV, BBC.COM and BBC News online. These networks reach an audience of 100s of millions across the globe, the third series of CEO Guru is planning to be on air the first quarter of 2014.

Tappin is one of the top 200 global LinkedIn influencers alongside Richard Branson, Barack Obama, Jack Welch, David Cameron, Jeff Immelt, Ban Ki Moon and Sir Martin Sorrell, Bill Gates and Ariana Huffington. His posts have attracted over 1.5 million views in the last 4 months. The focus for his posts have been about best practice for CEOs, leadership and global business insight with a focus on China. He also provides commentaries on specific CEOs and company situations.
China and "Dreams to Last"
Tappin is the first westerner expert to gain access to over 100 of China's leaders and has captured his experience in a book Dream to Last, which has been published by Beijing University Press and China Entrepreneur Club. He regularly shuttles between the West and China every 6 weeks. He is a trusted confidant of many of China's domestic entrepreneurs and multi-national companies. He was the first Westerner to be given access to the Chinese CEOs in the China Entrepreneur Club (CEC) who's members represent 4% of China's GDP and include: Founder of Lenovo - Liu Chuanzhi, founder of Wanda - Wang Jianlin, founder of Alibaba Group - Jack Ma, founder of Fosun - Guo Guangchang and founder of Geely - Li Shufu.
Tappin has written an international best selling "The Secrets of CEOS" book (Amazon.co.uk no.1 ranking Business book on day of launch} with Andy Cave, a journalist with The Daily Telegraph. The book was launched on 10 September 2008 in the UK and is a best seller reprinted around the world. The book is based on interviews with 150 global CEOs including John Browne, Baron Browne of Madingley, Ben Verwaayen, Michael Dell, Narayana Murthy, Liu Jiren, Sir Martin Sorrell and Caterina Fake. Richard Branson has written the foreword.[2]
Early career
Tappin began his career with the chemical giant ICI. After he left, Tappin was mentored by Sir John Harvey-Jones.[3] Some of the problems he encountered as part a large global company convinced him that there must be a better way to lead global companies and that the start point for that must be the CEO. He has been on quest to develop global best CEO and leadership practice for over 25 years. He is a successful CEO of 4 companies himself which included edengene, a growth and corporate venturing consulting firm. Under Tappin's leadership, edengene won "Best Small Firm" and the "Gold Medal award for client work" from the Management Consultancies Association.
