Steve Southern (born 29 April 1982 in Wollongong, New South Wales) is an Australian professional rugby league footballer currently playing for English club Wakefield Trinity Wildcats of Super League. He previously played in the National Rugby League for the North Queensland Cowboys and later the Newcastle Knights, usually at lock and in the second-row.

Playing career

North Queensland Cowboys

In the 2004 NRL season Southern made his debut for the North Queensland Cowboys. He played at second row forward in the 2005 NRL Grand Final, the Cowboys' first, which they lost to the Wests Tigers.

Newcastle Knights

In September 2010, Southern signed a one-year contract with the Newcastle Knights.[1]

He made his debut for the Knights in Round 6 of the 2011 NRL season, with the Knights defeating the Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks 24-20.

Wakefield Trinity Wildcats (Super League)

In August 2011 Southern signed a 3-year deal with English club Wakefield Trinity Wildcats of the European Super League.[2]
