Steven R. Schuh (born July 25, 1960) is a member of the Maryland House of Delegates, representing District 31 in Anne Arundel County. Schuh was first elected to the Legislature in 2006 and was re-elected in 2010. He currently serves as a member of the Economic Matters Committee, which is responsible for legislation related to business and job creation, and as Chairman of the Education Subcommittee of the Anne Arundel County Delegation. He is also an appointed member of the Governor’s Commission on Small Business and the Joint Committee on the Chesapeake and Atlantic Coastal Bays Critical Area. He served previously as a member of the Appropriations Committee, which is responsible for the State budget. Schuh is widely regarded as one of the Legislature’s leading voices on budget matters.
Education
Schuh is a graduate of Severn School. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and Political Science from Dartmouth College. Schuh holds two Masters Degrees – a Master of Business Administration and a Master of Science in Education from Harvard University and Johns Hopkins University, respectively. He is also a graduate of Leadership Anne Arundel’s Flagship Program.
Career
Schuh has been in business for nearly thirty years. He is President of Schuh Advisory, a private equity firm that specializes in starting new businesses. Schuh’s current focus is restaurant development. Previously, he was a Managing Director of Baltimore-based Alex. Brown & Sons, an investment banking and brokerage firm, and a Managing Director of Credit Suisse, an international financial-services firm. Schuh was a senior partner in the health care finance practices of both firms and is a nationally recognized expert in health care finance.
Community Involvement
Schuh serves as a Board Member of the Chesapeake Region of the American Red Cross, Board Treasurer of the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, a member of the Board of Trustees of Severn School, and a member of the Board of Directors of the United Way of Central Maryland. He also serves as Chairman of the Tocqueville Society of the United Way. He served previously as Board Vice Chairman of Chesapeake Academy, a member of the Board of Directors of Chesapeake Arts Center and President of Eagle Cove School.
Legislative Notes
- Voted against in-state tuition for illegal immigrants in 2007 (HB6).[1]
- Voted in favor of the "Stormwater Management - Watershed Protection and Restoration Program" in 2012 (HB987).[2] This bill is more commonly referred to as the Rain Tax.[3]
