Boyd to be re-elected to the Missouri House.[4]
On February 16, 2013, he was chosen by Democratic Party leaders from southeast Missouri to run in a special election for Missouri's 8th congressional district to replace resigned U.S. Representative Jo Ann Emerson.[5] Steve Hodges came in second in the race while Jason Smith won the race.[6]
