Stephen H. "Steve" Mahoney was an American football player and coach. He served as the head football coach at Boston College from 1914 to 1915, compiling a record of 8–8. After graduating from Somerville High School, Mahoney played running back for Holy Cross.[1] Before coming to Boston College, Mahoney coached high school football in the state of Massachusetts, first at Boston College High School (1910),[1] and then at Somerville High School (1911–1913).[2][3] After two seasons as the head coach of the Boston College Eagles football team, Mahoney was replaced by the popular Charles Brickley and Mahoney returned to Somerville High to coach track. He later served as a football official and as a city official in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Mahoney served Cambridge's physical director,[4] superintendent of the recreation,[5] and director of athletics.[6]
