Stephen Dixon (born in Newton-in-Furness, Cumbria) is a news presenter for Sky News, the 24-hour television news service operated by Sky Television, part of British Sky Broadcasting. He is based at Sky News Centre in West London, and formerly presented the flagship programmes Sky News at Seven and Sky News at Ten every Friday, Saturday and Sunday on Sky News. In January 2012 he switched to Sky News Sunrise, presenting Friday and weekend editions of the programme, and is the main stand-in presenter at other times for its main presenter, Eamonn Holmes.

Journalism career

Dixon's career began at Nottingham Trent University where he read for a BA in Broadcast Journalism. Before working for Sky News, Dixon worked for ITN as both a presenter and producer for ITV, NBC Superchannel and Channel 5. He also helped work as producer and programme editor on Channel 4 Big Breakfast News and presented on finance channel Simply Money with Angela Rippon.[1] Dixon was the first newsreader to report the 7 July 2005 London bombings.[citation needed]

In October 2010, Dixon made an unfortunate slip, asking Bee Gees singer Robin Gibb if his brother Maurice might be watching. Maurice died in 2003.[2]

Personal life

Dixon has gathered a large fan base since he started working for Sky. He also has type 1 diabetes (he was diagnosed when he was 17 years old).[3][4]

Prior to April 2010, Dixon was referred to on Sky News[5][6] and on his official website as "Steve".[7]
