Stephan Ackermann (Mayen 1963) was appointed Bishop of Trier (or Treves) in the Moselle area of Germany, in 2009.[1]

Biography

He had previously served with the title of Sozopolis in Haemimonto as auxiliary bishop in the same diocese from 2006.[2] Ackermann was educated at secondary school level in Andernach. He has studied at the Gregoriana in Rome, and at the Jesuit-run Sankt Georgen faculty in Frankfurt.[citation needed]

The French newspaper La Croix has described Ackermann as a vigorous spokesman for the Catholic Church in Germany.[3]
