Stefan Buck (born 3 September 1980 in Bad Saulgau, Baden-Württemberg) is a German football defender currently playing for Bayern Munich II.[1]

Career

Buck played for a number of clubs in Baden-Württemberg before joining Oberliga side SC Pfullendorf in 2000. The club won the Oberliga Baden-Württemberg in 2002, and Buck spent the next two years playing for them in the Regionalliga Süd, before joining Bayern Munich II in 2004. His first spell with Bayern's reserves would only last one year, but was a successful one - the team reached the quarter-finals of the DFB-Pokal, beating the first teams of Borussia Mönchengladbach, Alemannia Aachen and Eintracht Braunschweig on the way.

Buck was to stay in Munich, joining 2. Bundesliga side SpVgg Unterhaching in 2005. He spent two years with the club, and was the team's second top goalscorer in both seasons (with six and five respectively), but the 2006–07 season ended in relegation, and Buck left the club, joining Karlsruher SC, who had been promoted to the Bundesliga as champions. Buck's debut for Karlsruhe was a goalscoring one, he scored in the last minute of extra time to secure a 2–0 win over TSG Neustrelitz in the first round of the DFB Pokal, having come on as a sub for Tamás Hajnal. His Bundesliga debut came three months later, as a replacement for Bradley Carnell in the last minute of a 1–1 draw with MSV Duisburg, and he ended the season with thirteen league appearances, most of which came after the winter break.

Buck only made six league appearances the following season, the highlight of which was the decisive goal in a 1–0 win over Werder Bremen, but the club finished 17th and were relegated back to the 2. Bundesliga. Shortly after the beginning of the 2009–10 season, he signed for FC Augsburg, for whom he made 24 appearances as the club finished in third place, but missed promotion after a playoff defeat against 1. FC Nürnberg. In July 2010, Buck signed for another Bavarian 2. Bundesliga club, 1860 Munich, where he would spent the next two seasons, making over 50 appearances as the club finished in mid-table.

In 2012, Buck returned to Bayern Munich II, now in the fourth tier Regionalliga Bayern. He was named as team captain, as one of three experienced signings, along with Altin Lala and Tobias Schweinsteiger, to help the team earn promotion to the 3. Liga. After a slow start, Bayern II missed out on the championship in the 2012–13 season, finishing as runners-up behind their rivals, 1860 Munich II, the reserve team of Buck's previous club.
