Stefan Babović (Serbian Cyrillic: Стефан Бабовић; born 7 January 1987) is a Serbian footballer who plays for Voždovac in the Serbian SuperLiga.

He primarily plays as an attacking midfielder or a winger, and can play on either side of the pitch.

Club career

Partizan (2004–2006)

Babović came through the youth ranks at Partizan and made his professional debut during the 2003–04 season; he also played for Teleoptik on dual registration. On 8 January 2005, a day after his 18 birthday, Babović signed his first professional contract with Partizan, on five-year deal.[2] He was also a part of the team that won the 2004–05 national championship. After the retirement of Dragan Ćirić, Babović was given the number 10 shirt for the 2005–06 season. During that season, which was turbulent for the club, he played 23 league matches, scoring three goals. In August 2006, Babović left Partizan after a disagreement with coach Miodrag Ješić.[3][4]

OFK Beograd

After falling out with Partizan, Babović as a free agent signed for OFK Beograd on a four-year contract.[5] He quickly fit into a new ambient and played great for the club, which coincided with his fantastic performances for the youth national team.[6]

Nantes

On 13 December 2007, it was announced that Babović left Serbia to signed with Nantes of the French second division.[7] The transfer officially went through on 1 January 2008.[8] During his first half season at the Stade de la Beaujoire, Babović made 15 league appearances, scoring no goals, with the club was promoted to the first division. He also had an identical effect in the next season, but the club has not managed to remain in the highest rang.

After featuring in Nantes' first three league matches of the campaign, on 1 September 2009, Babović was sent on loan to Feyenoord until the end of the 2009–10 season,[9] with a buyout clause.[10] On 1 November 2009, he was sent off during the Klassieker in Amsterdam for elbowing Ajax defender Jan Vertonghen.[11] After serving his suspension,[12] he returned to the line up for the match against Groningen and scored his first Eredivisie goal, an equalizer after trailing 1–0, in a 3–1 victory. At the end of the season, it was announced that Feyenoord would not offer Babović a new contract,[13] and he moved back to France. However, in June 2010, Babović terminated his contract with Nantes by mutual agreement.[14]

Partizan (2010–2012)

After almost two months of training with his former club, Babović signed a two-year contract with Partizan on 16 August 2010.[15] In his comeback season with Partizan, Babović scored eight league goals which helped his team to reach their four title in a row, and was also named in the 2010–11 SuperLiga Team of the Season. In the same season, he made four appearances in the group stage of the Champions League. His fantastic 2010–11 season was completed by winning the national cup.

Zaragoza

In August 2012, Babović signed a three-year deal with Zaragoza.[16] Over the course of the 2012–13 season, he made nine league appearances, only to have his contract annulled in the summer of 2013 after the club's relegation from the Spanish top tier.

Voždovac

On the last day of the 2013 summer transfer window, Babović signed with Voždovac.[17]

International career

A former Serbia and Montenegro U-17 and U-19 player, Babović was unused substitute in the 2006 UEFA U-21 Championship in Portugal. He was Serbia's top scorer in the 2007 UEFA U-21 Championship qualification; two of his three goals came in the stunning play-off comeback against Sweden.[18] In the summer of 2007, he was named in the final 23-man squad for the final tournament held in the Netherlands.[19] Serbia ended the tournament as a runner-up, losing 4–1 to the hosts.

On 24 November 2007, Babović made his official international debut for the senior national team in a rescheduled Euro 2008 qualifier against Kazakhstan.
