Biography
Early life
Nick was born and raised in Salt Lake City. At the age of 15 he ran away from home and moved to New York where he became a street dancer. During this time he lived in a Christian charity shelter for runaway teens. At the age of 17 he moved to Miami, where he developed his love of DJing and electronic music. He gained his first residency at the age of 23 at C2K in The Venetian in Las Vegas, where he opened for a string of top DJ’s including Paul Oakenfold, Sasha, John Digweed and Paul van Dyk. The Venetian C2K nightclub closed down on the 30th August 2000. Nick was left out of work and took a job in Las Vegas scooping ice cream for $4.25 per hour. It was during this time he decided upon a career in the music industry. In order to buy the necessary equipment, Nick borrowed $1500 from a local gangster, Mickey James. This enabled him to purchase an i Mac with digital performer so he could learn how to produce electronic music.
Productions
Starkillers' first release was Discoteka, which was signed to Dutch Record Label, Spinnin’ Records, in 2006. The track featured as Judge Jules's ‘Essential Tune of the Week’ and reached number one in the main Beatport chart. Starkillers has gone on to achieve 12 number one Beatport hits, including Discoteka, Scream, For The Pills, Shake Me, Rock Me, Cantina, Funk Phenomena and four remixes. He was the first artist on Beatport to gain consecutive number ones in the main chart. He was also the first artist to hold the top three spots in the main Beatport chart with the Rock Me EP, which included two remixes. In 2011 he produced the track Pressure with Alex Kenji featuring Nadia Ali, which sold more than 500,000 copies and gained Gold Record status in 2013. Starkillers released his official remix of All The Wrong Places, the debut track from the fifth studio album by English rapper Example, which was released in 2013 on Epic Records, an imprint label of Sony Music Entertainment UK.
Radio Show and DJing
Starkillers launched his own radio show, 'Killer Radio'[2] in 2012, featuring guests such as Armin Van Buuren, Sander van Doorn, Gareth Emery, Moguai, John Dhalback, Daddy’s Groove, Kryder and the Stafford Brothers. He played at the Miami WMC in 2012 and 2013 [3] and in 2012 Starkillers had a sold out show at the O2 Arena London with Pukka Up. He’s held residencies at Ruby Skye, Voyer, Avalon, Bamboo, Crowbar and Lizard Lounge. He has produced a guest mix for Sander van Doorn’s Identity Radio Show and mixed the compilation albums Azuli Ibiza ‘12 for Defected Records and Nervous Nitelife: Vegas for Nervous Records.
