Stanley "Stan" Fearnley (birth registered January→March 1947 (age 66–67) in Bradford district[1]) is an English professional rugby league footballer of the 1960s and '70s, playing at representative level for England, and at club level for Bradford Northern, and Leeds as a Loose forward/Lock, i.e. number 13, during the era of contested scrums.

Playing career

International honours

Stan Fearnley won a cap for England while at Bradford Northern in the 1975 Rugby League World Cup against Australia.[2]

Stan Fearnley played Loose forward/Lock in England's 0-25 defeat to Australia in the 1975 Rugby League World Cup final at Headingley Stadium, Leeds on the 12 November 1975.[2]

Challenge Cup final appearances

Stan Fearnley played Loose forward/Lock, and scored a try in Bradford Northern's 14-33 defeat to Featherstone Rovers in the 1972-73 Challenge Cup final at Wembley Stadium on 12 May 1973, and in Leeds' 16-7 victory over Widnes in the 1976–77 Challenge Cup final at Wembley Stadium on Saturday 7 May 1977.

Career at Bradford Northern

Stan Fearnley - son of the coach and general manager Albert Fearnley - was the next loose forward to emerge at Odsal, having pace and footballing skills. He played for Bradford Northern from 1964 to 1977, scoring 41 tries in 217 games.
