A stadium is a geometric shape constructed of a rectangle with semi-circles at a pair of opposite sides.[1] An alternate name for this two-dimensional shape is a discorectangle.[2]

The shape is used for athletics and horse racing tracks.

Formulas

The perimeter P of a stadium is P=2(\pi r+a) and the area A is A=\pi r^{2}+2ra [3]

(In these formulas a represents the length of the straight sides and r the radius of the semicircles.)
