Mapei Stadium - Città del Tricolore is a multi-purpose stadium in Reggio Emilia, Italy.
The stadium holds 20,084 and was built in 1995, replacing the Stadio Mirabello. It was given the name Stadio Città del Tricolore on 11 March 2012, having previously been called the Stadio Giglio.[1] On 8 July 2013, the stadium was given the current denomination for sponsorship reasons.[2]
In December 2013 Sassuolo's owner Giorgio Squinzi has bought the stadium so Sassuolo Calcio is the new owner of Mapei Stadium - Città del Tricolore.
Events
It is currently used mostly for football matches and is the home ground of A.C. Reggiana 1919. It also hosts larger rugby union matches for Pro 12 team, Zebre of Parma.
Football club Carpi used the ground for home matches during the 2011-12 season. In the 2013-14 season, the newly promoted Serie A side Sassuolo are going to play at the ground. They signed a two-year rent deal with Reggiana, who manages the venue. The agreement struck with Reggiana will also include infrastructural improvements, including new benches and locker rooms, along with the development of new marketing and trade policies, which aim to take advantage of the business opportunities that come with the club’s Serie A promotion.[3] The stadium was consequently renamed Mapei Stadium - Città del Tricolore.[2]
