The Springfield School in Karachi, Pakistan was founded on September 1, 1966. Mrs. Agha co-founder of the school died on 25 April 2009.

History

Springfield School was founded on September 1, 1966 by husband and wife Mirza Nadir Agha and Nusrat Agha in a rented bungalow on the corner of Karsaz Road and Shahra-e-Faisal. O levels were introduced in 1986.

Academics

Springfield's idea of grooming of its students is based around its motto of Labour, Knowledge and Integrity. Right from its earliest batches, there is an extensive focus on academics and in particular on subjects such as Mathematics, General Science, History and English Literature. Revolutionary ideas are discussed in class and students are often encouraged to participate in discussions pertaining to current issues confronting humanity. A very strong emphasis on discipline has ensured that students tend to focus on their development and consequently, alumni of this institution have a reputation for being very hard working in their professional lives. Equality of all citizens is preached from Grade One, as students are all required to wear identical uniforms (including shoes) on a daily basis. Homework in English Language, Urdu and Mathematics is a practice right from Kindergarten, and is graded on a daily basis to provide feedback and monitor the progress of students. Examinations are conducted twice a year along with 'tests' on at least a bi-weekly basis, for which students are expected to come prepared to school. Declamation and public speaking competitions are a frequent occurrence and students are encouraged to be creative as a group in various items performed in the annual school concert. Recently, there has been talk of making current affairs a separate subject in itself.

Sexual-education and culinary practices/table-manners should be taught as subjects at the school level and are suggestions for improvement to the current administration. Despite being a Muslim country, it is important Pakistan's young minds are taught the importance of family planning from a very young age and for that sexual-education is a must.

A large percentage of Springfield's alumni proceed to seek higher education at local institutions in Pakistan. Since they usually put roots in Pakistan, Springfield is certainly a significant contributor towards the development of The Pakistani Nation. Alumni from Springfield pursue livelihoods in an entire breadth of careers ranging from Entrepreneurship to Medicine to Engineering and even Civil and Military Services. It is quite a good school and i'm sure it will make progress.

Campus

There is a field which was mainly used to play cricket but now it is used to play baseball. There is a library, a hall (which is often used for debates), a science laboratory for experiments and science practicals, and a computer lab. The library, despite being small in size, houses an array of books covering almost all subjects, which are of very high quality.

Location

Springfield School is located in K.D.A., the most prestigious locality of Karachi. In spite of being in a central area it is ideally situated in a secluded corner providing a serene and calm environment to the students. The school has been constructed on a plot measuring 9573 sq. yards with all the three sections, Junior, Middle & Senior, housed side by side functioning in a building specifically designed for this purpose.

School motto

Labour, Knowledge, Integrity

Labour: Quaid-e-Azam’s words “Work, work and more work,” provide inspiration for us to follow in his footsteps.

Knowledge: In today’s world, knowledge and progress are synonyms. Only knowledge can guide and lead us onwards.

Integrity: Without Integrity both labour and knowledge are blind and stumble along meaninglessly. Integrity alone makes life worthwhile and is its own reward, notwithstanding the fact that it elicits substantial material rewards as well. Our motto provides the pillars on which the school and the character of our students is founded.

Founders

Springfield School was established by Mirza Nadir Agha on the 1st of September, 1966 as an English medium school offering education to classes from Nursery to VIIIth with the additional facility of a boarding school for boys only, while the school itself was coeducational.

Indeed, it was Sir Mirza’s farsightedness and vision of the future, which was responsible for propelling us in the right direction. Today the school prepares students to sit for the GCE O' Levels examinations from the University of Cambridge, UK. The school enjoys a unique reputation for its academic excellence as well as its character building and discipline.
