In 1996, Reynoso named Sphenodontinae a subfamily of Sphenodontidae. Sphenodontinae has one tribe, named Sphenodontini.[1] Sphenodontini is the only tribe of the Sphenodontinae subfamily. Its two members are Cynosphenodon, and the modern Tuatara.
