Space: 2099
Space: 2099 is an upcoming remake of the British television sci-fi series Space: 1999, which was created by Gerry Anderson and ran between 1975-77. The new series was announced in February 2012 and will be made by ITV Studios America in conjunction with HD Films.[1]

Space: 2099 was also the title of an unrelated project spearheaded by Eric Bernard, a fan of the original series who intended to retool it with a goal similar to that accomplished with other science-fiction series such as Star Trek or The Star Wars Trilogy: Special Edition. In addition to modernizing the series with enhanced visual effects, Bernard planned to re-edit the original material to improve pacing, integrate additional material to improve the dramatic texture, and mitigate scientific and technical inaccuracies where feasible. Limited amounts of the group's sample work and promotional footage were available via the internet.
In addition to the reworking of the original Space: 1999, the group has additional ideas to produce a sequel that takes place thirty to forty years beyond the original timeline. ITV Studios (the current rights-holder to Space: 1999) has not officially sanctioned Retcon Studios efforts, thus Retcon's Space: 2099 project is considered an unofficial, privately held work, similar in status to that of the Star Trek: Phase II fan series.
After the 2012 announcement that ITV Studios and HDFilms intended to develop the Space: 1999 property and decided to helm their own project using the Space: 2099 title without the establishment of any relationship nor acknowledgement of Retcon Studios work to date, Retcon Studios has now concentrated its efforts on producing an unofficial sequel to the original series called Moonbase Alpha: Legacy.
