South Rukuru River

The South Rukuru River is a river of northern Malawi. It flows through the Nyika Plateau.
The baby elephant Moses was rescued by the rangers from Vwaza and taken to his new home at Jumbo Foundation Elephant Orphanage [www.jumbofoundation.com]after he spent two days abandoned in the South Rukuku river
The Department of Irrigation in currently developing a large irrigation scheme which will cover an area of 4000 hectares in the Rumphi district on the left bank of the South Rukuru River. The project is supported by the European Union and will benefit almost 2300 farmers in the region.
