Overview
Barry had already collaborate with Ricky Skaggs in July 2012 when the pair performs "How Can You Mend a Broken Heart", "When the Roses Bloom Again", "To Love Somebody" and "Stayin' Alive". "Soldier's Son" was written by Barry, Steve and Ashley Gibb in 2007[1] but was not recorded until 2012 when it was recorded by Skaggs' group Kentucky Thunder. Around July 2012, Barry added vocals on this song. Lead vocals by Barry on most of the song.[2]
Recording
"It was a great time," Skaggs said of recording the track. "We enjoyed each other's company. He recorded a song and sent it to me as a demo to see if I wanted to record it. I told him I was going to be doing a new bluegrass record soon, and would he think about coming in and recording it with me. He said 'I don't have to think about it. Just tell me when you want me and I'm there. That was amazing to listen to someone I listened to a lot. The Bee Gees were a lot more than Saturday Night Fever."[3]
Ricky Skaggs, Paul Brewster and Ed Faris' guitars was featured on the intro in the chord of D. Steve Gibb, who was also musician, he joined bands like 58, Black Label Society, Crowbar and many more. Keyboards programmed by Blair Masters, mixed by John Merchant.[4]
