On the whole, the album received positive reviews. Writing for Revolver Magazine, Greg Pratt said that on Solarflesh, Hate "nailed the best of modern no-frills death metal" and that "With a production that’s pristine but not overdone, this album is the moment Hate have been working towards all these years", giving the album a 4/5. Writing for Metal Underground, xFiruath (the site's Content Manager) also gave the album a 4/5, and said that the album is "Blackened death metal at its best: brutal, but never gets old." However, he drew comparisons between Solarflesh and Behemoth, writing that "There are quite a few similarities, both musically and especially in the vocals, with newer Behemoth albums. That style of sound makes for an undeniably awesome release, but some might be bothered by just how much this sounds like “Evangelion".”

Metal Storm also criticised the band for supposed similarities to Behemoth. Saying that "Nothing on this is original sounding" and finishing with "Behemoth. Hate sounds like Behemoth. But that's not that bad of a thing necessarily." Though he was critical in this respect, he also praised the albums in others, saying that "there are more than enough tunes and riffs and parts that come together cohesively and evilly on this to bite into and enjoy. There are plenty of straight-up, no bullshit, neck snapping grooves here."
