Solange Azagury-Partridge is a London based jewellery designer, the former Creative Director of Boucheron, and founder of her own brand.

Biography

Solange Azagury was born in London in 1961. She now lives in West London with her husband, screenplay writer Murray Partridge.[1] After studying French and Spanish at university, she initially worked at London costume jewellers Butler & Wilson. A year later she went to work for 20th century antique dealer Gordon Watson, where she developed an interest in vintage jewellery.[2]

Career

The first piece of jewellery she made was her own engagement ring in 1987, a simple gold band with an uncut diamond. She has stated that three years later, she taught herself how to design jewellery.[2][1]In 1995, she opened a velvet-lined shop on Westbourne Grove, cited by the Independent as "the most idiosyncratic jewellery shop in London.", and often mistaken for a brothel.[3] In 2001 she was hired by Tom Ford of PPR as Creative Director of Boucheron, the Parisian jewellery firm founded in 1858. She worked there for 3 years before leaving to concentrate on her own brand. In 2004, pieces she designed for Boucheron were exhibited at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs, Paris and are now part of the permanent collection.[4] Four years later pieces from Solange Azagury-Partridge were acquired for the Victoria & Albert Museum’s permanent collection.[5]

In 2008 she partnered with Labelux Group, a division of Joh. A Benckiser, parent to British multinational consumer goods company Reckitt Benckiser, with a plan to roll out the brand internationally. The brand went on to open boutiques in New York,[6] London,[7] Beverly Hills, CA,[8][9] Singapore,[7] and Hong Kong.[10] In December 2012 it was announced that the brand was being sold back to its founder.[11]

In 2009, the brand released a short film by director Laurence Dunmore and starring Thandie Newton and Jason Isaacs, titled The Letter.[12][13] She designed a ring for the film Snow White and the Huntsman, worn by the Evil Queen played by Charlize Theron.[14]
