The Social Liberal Union (Romanian: Uniunea Social Liberală, USL) is a political alliance of political parties in Romania. The USL was formed on 5 February 2011[1] initially between the Social Democratic Party, the National Liberal Party and the Conservative Party, which currently form the parliamentary majority and government.[2] On 10 June 2012 the USL won the local elections by a landslide ahead of the 9 December 2012 parliamentary elections where the same happened. Currently, USL holds two-thirds of the seats in the Parliament of Romania, a record number of 395 MP. [3]
Together the National Liberal Party and Conservative Party formed the Centre Right Alliance which de facto dissolved in November 2013. In August–September 2012, the Social Democratic Party and National Union for the Progress of Romania formed the Centre Left Alliance.[4]
The founding document states that the alliance is supposed to last until after the 2016 legislative election.[citation needed]
