Smosh Games, sometimes written as SmoshGames, is a YouTube video gaming channel created by Smosh, a company producing internet content, primarily on YouTube. Joshua "Jovenshire" Ovenshire, David "Lasercorn" Moss, and Matt Sohinki, originally from Clevver Games, are the primary hosts of the channel. Anthony Padilla, Ian Hecox, and Mari Takahashi appear in a lesser role, mostly in Let's Play videos.

History

Creation

Prior to the creation of Smosh Games, Hecox and Padilla, the creators of Smosh, would occasionally upload gameplay and commentary videos onto their second channel.[2] Due to the success of the videos, Hecox and Padilla used their main channel to announce they would be launching another channel, Smosh Games, which would be featuring gameplay, commentary, reviews, and news videos on September 26, 2012.[3] The announcement video promised twelve videos a week from the duo, and four other content creators.[3] The first two videos were uploaded the same day,[4] as well as a video on Clevver Games that Jovenshire, Lasercorn, and Sohinki would be moving to Smosh Games.[5]

Success

In late December 2012, just 93 days after uploading its first video, Smosh Games became the fastest YouTube channel to reach one million subscribers.[6] In January and February 2013 all three of Jovenshire,[7] Lasercorn,[8] and Sohinki[9] launched their own channels, where they release game play videos. Shortly after the channel became six months old, it reached 200 million video views.[10]

In May 2013, Smosh launched the "Smosh Games Alliance",[11] a network of YouTube users who upload videos of their game play.[12] Smosh Games highlighted some of their videos each week from May to November 2013. As of February 2014 Smosh Games has over 3.8 million subscribers, and 400 million video views.[1]

In February 2013 Smosh released Super Head Esploder X, a video game for iOS,[13][14] and in July 2013 started an Indiegogo campaign for an iOS and PC game, Food Battle: The Game.[15][16] Smosh hoped to raise $250,000 to hire video game producers to create a game based on their characters and the foods used in their annual Food Battle series, and was able to raise $258,777.

Content

Nineteen series have been created by Smosh Games, eight are currently in production.[17]
