Smilovice (help·info) (Polish: Śmiłowice (info), German: Smilowitz) is a village in Frýdek-Místek District, Moravian-Silesian Region, Czech Republic, on the Ropičanka River. It has a population of 581 (2001 census), Poles constitute 26.4% of the population.[1] It lies in the historical region of Cieszyn Silesia. Former Prime Minister of Poland and current president of the European Parliament Jerzy Buzek was born here.
After the division of Cieszyn Silesia in 1920, the village became part of Czechoslovakia as Smilovice. In October 1938, the village and the whole Zaolzie region was annexed by Poland. The village was then annexed by Nazi Germany at the beginning of World War II. After the war it was restored to Czechoslovakia.
The Christian festival XcamP takes place in Smilovice annually in July.
