Trevant Jermaine Hardson[1] (born October 5, 1970),[2] best known by his stage name SLIMKID3, is an American hip hop recording artist and record producer from Los Angeles, California. He is best known as one of the four original members of innovative West Coast hip hop group The Pharcyde.
Early years
Two For Two
Tre Hardson began his career in the entertainment industry as a dancer and choreographer under the moniker "Two For Two" with his two high school friends Bootie Brown (Romye Robinson) and Imani (Emandu Wilcox). 'Two For Two' made numerous appearances in music videos, but had its most notable exposure with a short stint on the television show 'In Living Color'.
The Pharcyde
As a member of The Pharcyde, he has contributed to the critically acclaimed Bizarre Ride II the Pharcyde, as well as its follow-up release Labcabincalifornia. He also worked on the third full length LP Plain Rap (released November 7, 2000) with the two remaining members of The Pharcyde after Fatlip's departure. After the release of Plain Rap, Tre also decided to leave the group to pursue a solo career.
As a rapper in The Pharcyde, Tre could be recognized for his ability to incorporate both singing and rapping in his verses, particularly in songs such as '4 Better or 4 Worse', 'Otha Fish' and 'She Said'.
Solo career
Since his departure from The Pharcyde, Tre would often go by birth name of "Tre Hardson" rather than "Slimkid3". He has also formed a band 'Faqawi' which has accompanied him with his solo career. Tre's solo work has been greatly influenced by soul and old school hip hop and consists of live instrumentation (replacing the drum machines and sampled beats of his past work).
In 2000, Tre Hardson released a very limited edition CD entitled The Legend Of Phoenix, which was a name he shortly performed under. In 2002, Tre released a solo album, Liberation on his record label 'Flying Baboon'. His second full length solo album SLIMKID3's Cafe was released on April 4, 2006.
Collaborations
Hardson produced actor Brian Austin Green's debut album, One Stop Carnival, in 1996.[3] In 1998, he contributed vocals to Korn's song "Cameltosis" from their album Follow The Leader. Tre also appeared in Korn's music video Got The Life where he cleans the window of a car and then receives the keys from guitarist Head and bassist Fieldy. In 2002 he appeared on the song "Sugar-Coated" from Fieldy's solo album Rock'n Roll Gangster, his rap album under the moniker Fieldy's Dreams.
Hardson collaborated on the N.A.S.A. song "Hip Hop" with KRS-One and Fatlip. In 2007, he joined the diverse music ensemble Ozomatli for their winter tour of the west coast as guest MC, and became the official MC of the group, but departed in summer-2008 to reunite with his former group "The Pharcyde" to do both a US and Europe run of "Rock the Bells Festival".
Hardson also was a co-writer on the group 311 's track "Wake Your Mind Up", on their 2001 release From Chaos
Reunion with Fatlip
Tre Hardson has reunited with former Pharcyde member Fatlip to perform on 'The Over 30, Dirty Old Men Tour' together (the Website/Forum can be found at fatlipandslimkid3.com).
Tre was featured in the song 'All I Want for Christmas (Is Somebody Else)' with Fatlip featuring St. Imey (of The Wascals) and produced by J-Swift. These artists are considered to be Delicious Vinyl's 'Dream Team'.
In 2008 Both Tre and Fatlip announced they will rejoin Bootie Brown and Imani to once again tour as The Pharcyde during the Rock The Bells summer tour. No album plans have been announced.
On November 2012, they reunited for Bizarre Ride Live with 20 years of Pharcyde Hip-Hop starting from the debut album.
