Sivagiri is a panchayat town in Erode district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu.
Sivagiri has an average elevation of 199 metres (653 ft). It is located 25 km (16 mi) to the south of Erode, 35 km (22 mi) to the north-west of Karur, 40 km (25 mi) to the west of Namakkal and 45 km (28 mi) to the east of Tirupur. Sivagiri means 'Shiva's peak' which might have been derived from the hill lock with a Shiva temple located in the town. Its economy is dependent on the agriculture and textile industries. Sivagiri is well connected with Erode and Karur, the neighboring towns. There are many temples, including a temple dedicated to Sri Velayudha Swami.
Demographics
As of 2001 India census,[1] Sivagiri had a population of 22,285. Males constituted 51% of the population and females 49%. Sivagiri has an average literacy rate of 65%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 75%, and female literacy is 55%. In Sivagiri, 9% of the population is under 6 years of age.
