Sipra (Urdu: ثپرا) is a Jat tribe in the Punjab region of Pakistan and India. Sipra are one of the most educated and well established families among other Jat. Sipra is a Muslim Jat tribe[1] found mainly in the western districts of Punjab in Pakistan.[2]


History

The Sipra are a sub-division of the Jat. The tribe has also given its name to the battlefield of Sobraon. They are Muslim and Hindus, many converted to Islam in the 16th century. They are in Armed Forces, Executives and judiciary.It means 'super race'.[3]

Location

The tribe is chiefly found along the banks of Chenab and Jhelum River, in Gujrat, Mandi Bahauddin, Kharian, Gujranwala, Rahim Yar Khan, Ahmadpur East, Sahiwal, Multan, Karachi, Sargodha and Layyah Districts, and are specially numerous in Kabirwala District Khanewal, Waryam Wala Astation Jhang District, Gojra, Chiniot District. The Sipra have no connection with the surname Sapru, which is, in fact, a Kashmiri Pundit surname.
