Singham 2

Singham 2 (Hindustani pronunciation: [ʂɪnɡʱ:ɦam: 2] translation: Lion 2) is an upcoming Bollywood action film directed by Rohit Shetty. The film is the sequel to the 2011 super hit Singham, featuring Ajay Devgan reprising his role from the previous film alongside Kareena Kapoor Khan essaying the lead female role. The film is expected to release on 15 August 2014 coinciding with the national holiday of Independence day of India. ^[3]

Development

After the success of Rohit Shetty directorial (2011) Singham, a sequel was announced, however was unconfirmed by Shetty. When Shetty signed Shahrukh Khan for his next venture Chennai Express, it was rumoured that Shetty had a fallout with actor Ajay Devgn who had appeared in all of Shetty's previous movies. However, soon enough, it was reported that after the release of Chennai Express (2013), Singham 2 would hopefully go on floors, expecting for a release on Diwali 2014 but later a release date of Independence day, holiday release was announced officially thus clashing with Akshay Kumar starrer Gabbar releasing on the same date.^[4] This sequel is also expected to be a remake of Tamil Singam 2 directed by Hari which released in July 2013 in accordance with its predecessor.^[5][6] However in a report by Bollywood Hungama it was confirmed that the second film might not be remake with an original script and story line and went into scripting phase in June 2013 and will be completed within five months in November 2013.^[7] Further speculations were made regarding the female lead of the film with names of Deepika Padukone, who also starred in the director's last venture, 2013 film Chennai Express as also Kareena Kapoor.^[8] Later in October 2013, Kareena Kapoor who till then was the directors foremost choice was reported as to not starring in the film with the director himself stepping back as the role was inadequate for an actress of her calibre with him deciding to rope in a south actress.^[9][10] According to a report by The Times of India TV actress Drashti Dhami was thought to be cast opposite Ajay Devgn.^[11]In January, 2014, the team of Singham 2 consisting of Rohit Shetty, Ajay Devgn and Kareena Kapoor Khan launched a teaser of the film at an event in Mumbai, also confirming Kapoor Khan's presence in the film.^[12]

Filming

Director Rohit Shetty announced his thoughts on making a sequel to one of his finest movies Singham (2011). After filming Chennai Express with Shahrukh Khan, Shetty reportedly has begun filming for Singham 2 with the lead star Ajay Devgn.^[13] According to recent reports Asin will be paired opposite Ajay Devgan. She will be doing an action based role for the first time in Singham. Himesh Reshammiya to compose the music of Singham 2. It was Ajay Devgn who suggested Himesh Reshammiya to Rohit for Singham 2. Ajay, who had finalised Himesh Reshammiya to compose the music for Singham 2.^{[citation needed]} Filming was expected to go on floors by December 2013 after Rohit Shetty's last release, Chennai Express's release with Shetty starting the work of Singham 2's pre-production along with that of his another film which incidentally is a sequel too, Golmaal 4.^[14][15] However Ajay Devgn the lead of the film canned 20 days of photography for his another film Action Jackson, directed by Prabhudeva and start another leg of the shoot from 10 November 2013.^[16]
