Shindkheda is a town and taluka in the Shirpur subdivision of Dhule district in Nashik division of Kandesh region of Maharashtra state in India.

The Name of this town Shindkheda is due this place was full of 'Shindi' trees ('Shindi' trees are just look like Coconut or Palm trees) earlier,So the Kheda (Place) with full of Shindi trees is named after it-'Shinkheda' or 'Sindkheda'.

Geographically city is situated west side of river Burai River. On this river there is one dam for water conservation for farms.

History

Settlement of Sindkheda may have been in the 12th century, before that this area belongs to dandaka aranya. More number of shindhi trees are grown around causes the name to the town Sindkheda. Sindkheda is settled on the bank of Burai River. There is story on the name of Burai River. One day a Santa (Pujari) taking bath on the little stream, suddenly flow of water increased and the cloth of Pujari flown away. Pujari was shocked and surprise to see some new cloths are flowing towards him. He thanks the to the River and said form today you becomes a Ma Burai. Who will wash every ones bure karm. At the same time he preached anyone who tries dirt you will dry yourself or who causes to dirt your water his life will get miserable. There are real time evidence still we can see.

After the 12th century Muslim sardar ruled the region some Khan Ruled this area that is why this area is known as Khandesh. It is also saying that this is khana (Krishna) ka desh so it is khan desh. Both Hindu and Muslims live here peacefully in sindkheda. Khan distributed the land area amongs 13.5 Provinces In Local languages they are known as Rawals.

This town earlier under the Holkar's state (Indore).Mr.Pratap Singh Rawal was the head of the town & area (Rawal Gadhi at Shindkheda still exists at South side of town & near Burai river)

Pratapsingh Rawal after that Lakhesing Rawal ruled the Jahagiri up to British rule. On the Era of Pratapsingh Rawal Lord Datta mandir of sindkheda was constructed on the bank of river Maa Burai. At the same era Lord Balaji Mandir might be constructed. Balaji sansthan started Ratha Palkhi Utsava where every year at Ashvin Paurnima i.e. on Kojagiri Paurnima People of the town and surrounding area gather and pull the Ratha around the main street of sindkheda. It is one of the huge and famous Rath Plakhi utsav around area.

India freedom movement 1947,Shindkheda gave freedom fighters like Ramchandra Nathu Buwa-Dukale alias Rama Buwa,Narayan Buwa alias Nana Buwa (Balaji Sansthan,Shinkheda),Vyankatrao Patil.

Pratapsing Rawal was strong beloved in Hinduism and mythology so he called to Kavyatirth Hon. Late. Ha.pa.bha. Sitaram Gangadhar Pandit called nickname Shewadkar bapu bapu was bachelor of Sanskrit language and got degree from Kashi(banaras)Hindu Vidyapeeth. he was very popullar in Sindkheda taluka. Bapuji read 60 times Bhagwat katha in Datta Mandir. he was master in Vedic Astrology, Mythology and Karmakand he was living at Datta Mandir (Now his grand son Mr. Vivek Dangarikar working in social activities). this Great Holly place.

The whole wooden Rath was built on teak woods and it has five wheels. The Fifth Wheel is in the middle of other five it is used on very difficult turning on streets. Ratha is passing through diffident lanes where Muslim people are also pulling the Ratha from their area. Near the mosque the Hindus are stop beating there drums and musical instruments. So loving both the communities’ whole world should learn lesson from this small town. Might be more than last 150 years this Ratha Palkhi ustav gets celebrated in the area, very next day shree Balaji Seats on Palkhi in the evening and bless the people of the town. Balaji Madir sansthan pramukh shree Nana Maharaja and his father Nathu Maharaja started Pandharpur Wari every year. The times followed by their insisters and it is still continue. Ram naumi is one of the major festival celebrated in the mandir. The times were Nana Maharaj was there a huge bhandara was organized in Ratha Galli. The whole year Ratha galli was giving spiritual fillings to the local residence people. Gone are the days due to lack of donation by the devotees to the Sansthan.

Near the sindkheda small but famous village Patan which is famous for Ashapuri mataji Temple. There is a story that Ashapuri mataji is coming on every nauratri for Gharbha dance to the Ghadi of Rawals at Sindkheda. Rawal build a very beautiful temple at patan.

First Gymkhana(Vyayamshala) in Shindkheda is opened by Freedom Fighter Ramchandra Nathu Buwa-Dukale alias Rama Buwa & he named after his guru Damodar,'DAMODAR GURU VYAYAMSHALA'Shindkheda.

First boys School opened in Shindkheda by Freedom Fighter Ramchandra Nathu Buwa-Dukale alias Rama Buwa & Dr.Phade.School named as 'NEW ENGLISH SCHOOL',then it renamed M.H.S.S. (Mulla Haidar Shaikh Shamshuddin) High School.First Girls School also opened in Shindkheda by 'NEW ENGLISH SCHOOL'named after 'Meerabai Fulchandas shah'.First Urdu High School also opened in Shindkheda by 'NEW ENGLISH SCHOOL'.

The Name In the history of Shindkheda can not be forgotten and that is Late Mangalsingh Nimji Rajput i.e. well Known Thansingh Jibhau. .He was a very famous MLA from this Taluka. He is farmer by profession and great attachment with his town and taluka. He saw a dream to improve the lifestyles of the people in this region.

Major Works in his era were Shindkheda railway station & its platform,towns water supply system works, Bridge on Bank Of River Burai,Bring the water from Tapti River to his Town and Lot of work.

Ashapuri Temple: It is very famous and historical temple of Mata Aashapuri Devi. It is situated 2 k.m. from main Sindkheda city the place called Patan towards shindkehda-shipur road. On first day of Marathi month ( Chaitra Poornima) there is Festival and maha puja in the temple. The temple having very good natural scenery with park.
