Simone Rota (born 6 November 1984) is an Italian footballer of Filipino descent who plays for Asti.
Biography
Despite born in Philippines, Rota spent his entire career in Europe, especially in Italian-speaking region. He entered Pro Sesto first team in 2001–02 Serie C2 and became a regular in 2003–04 season. The team promoted to Serie C1 in 2005 as 2004–05 Serie C2 Group A winner. That season he also selected to Mirop Cup as a member of Italy U-20 Lega Pro,[2] against youth national team from Styria, Croatia, Hungary[3] and Slovenia, eventually "Italy U-20 Lega Pro" was the champion.[4] He also capped for "Italy U-20 Lega Pro" in 2005 Trofeo Dossena, losing to Internacional youth team in the final. He did not capped for Italy in the final match of 2004–05 Mirop Cup,[5] and he only played 7 times in 2005–06 Serie C1. In January 2006 he was transferred from Group A side Pro Sesto to Manfredonia of Group B.[6] The season Manfredonia finished as the tenth and Pro Sesto relegated.
However the team re-admitted to fill the vacancy due to bankruptcy of other teams. Rota also returned to Pro Sesto as a regular, in although he missed rest of the season since April.[7] Rota returned to first team in November 2007 but only played 8 times that season. He was transferred to Lugano of Swiss Challenge League in 2008.[8] Rota returned to Pro Sesto again in 2009, but the team went bankrupt and finished as the least in 2009–10 Lega Pro Seconda Divisione.
