Simon Wright (restaurateur)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Simon Wright is a food writer, broadcaster and restaurateur.

Biography

Wright rose to public prominence in 2002 when, as editor of the AA Restaurant Guide, he was at the centre of a row involving Gordon Ramsay, his former protégé Marcus Wareing and the motoring organisation. The then Managing Director of the AA, Roger Wood, demanded that Ramsay's Petrus restaurant be downgraded after he failed to secure a preferred table for a private booking. Wright viewed the intervention as wholly unethical and backed the recommendation of the organisation's professional inspectors. Eventually he resigned in protest at the decision and the argument was given substantial coverage in the national press. Following the publicity the decision was reversed and Petrus received its rightful rating but Wright did not rejoin the AA.[1]
