Silver Trail

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Silver Trail (Yukon Highway 11) connects the communities of Mayo, Elsa and Keno City with the Klondike Highway at Stewart Crossing, where that highway crosses the Stewart River.

Originally built in 1950-51 as the Whitehorse-Mayo Road, and long known as Yukon Highway 2, the route was renumbered in 1978 as Highway 11, and in the mid-1980s was given its name, referring to the historic operations of silver mining in the district.

The highway is paved as far as Mayo's airport, and is gravel from there to Elsa and Keno City. A network of rural roads winds through the area, providing a back road into Keno City.
